Community Health Impact Council
CHiC develops, funds and measures the impacts of innovative initiatives that improve health in Central Florida communities and reduce preventable medical costs and interventions. Current CHiC initiatives include:
- Care Management Bridge - Develop a care coordination and medical home enrollment model for 500 targeted, uninsured people with chronic conditions at Florida Hospital East Orlando.
- Healthy 100 Kids - Improve long-term community health, while lowering health care costs, through the treatment and prevention of childhood obesity.
- Care Transitions - Hospital to Home - Designed to assist patients returning home after a hospital stay during the first month after discharge. Patients who are selected may receive additional services to help with recovery in their home.
- The Clinic for Depression, Anxiety and Co-occurring Medical Conditions - Provide direct access to outpatient mental health care for targeted hospital and medical clinic patients at the right time and with the right follow-through to improve the health of our community and reduce costs to our health care system.
- Congestive Heart Failure Clinic: Helping low-income people manage congestive heart failure;
- Parish Nursing: Expanding the circle of congregations benefiting from parish nursing programs.
- Heart of Apopka: A community education and wellness campaign that includes a chronic disease self-management program and outreach to high risk individuals. More...

A series of studies on issues important to physicians.
P2P Communication Study - Developing methods to assess and improve physician communication.
P2P Health & Wellbeing Study
Self-assessment of health and wellbeing for resident physicians across bio-physiological, psycho-emotional, socio-relational, and religio-spiritual domains.
P2P Satisfaction Study - Exploring physician satisfaction and dissatisfaction with survey data and identifying practical next steps through interviews.

Nurse Practice Studies
A series of studies on issues impacting the practice of nursing.
Shared governance as vertical alignment of nursing group power and nurse practice council effectiveness - Developing and validating an instrument for measuring the effectiveness of Nurse Practice Councils (NCPs), based on previous NCP studies. Discusses the initial theoretical framework for better studying shared governance and the implications of this framework.
Nursing Practice Council (NCP) Study - Examining the barriers andenablers to effective participation by nursing practice councils in improving patient care.
Mature Nurse Action Research - Studying factors that affect nurse engagement and loyalty as they mature professionally.
Nurse Manager Empowerment: Context, Power & Personality - Examining the interactions of organizational context, perceptions of power, and personality traits in nurse managers’ sense of empowerment
Nurse Managers’ Motivating Language - Improving communications by providing mechanisms to facilitate confidential feedback on strengths and areas of improvement.
Implementation of a Team Nursing Model - Evaluating the adoption and outcomes from the implementation of a collaborative, team-nursing model in selected nursing units.
Other Studies
Observational and Survey Study to Compare the Reliability and Validity of Clorox Cleaning Agents and Disinfectants - Examining the impact and use of Clorox disinfecting agent in the hospital setting. The study
will measure staff adherence to contact time requirements, and the impact of the Clorox disinfecting agent on the C-Dificil and other hospital infection rates.
